Wanted to show off more of the house. The kitchen is tiny and we work off the table to the left for making dinner. The clothes line is down so you cannot see the extra “counter top”. The living room and dining room are nice and they include the most important family member “Titi”. She gets all the scraps from dinner and a few cookies every night before bed. She doesn’t come near the table when they are home but I had breakfast alone this morning and she rested her head on my leg. Mama would be so upset. I thinking some of the younger guest feed her when mama is not around.
Tonight’s diner was quite an event. She has asked me if I liked seafood. I should have asked a few more questions before I said yes. The first course was fine bean soup with mussels. I have never cooked mussels and it is doubtful I will do it again unless they come cleaned in the U.S. Pulling the stringy seaweed junk from them was almost more than I could do. I was surprised how easy they were to cook though. I would have thought you boiled them but mama just through them in a pan.
The second course was the real challenge. It was a tuna and cold mashed potato dish covered in a sauce of tuna and mayonnaise. It was shaped to look like a fish with two capers as eyes. Mama was very proud it claiming it is her family’s holiday meal. I couldn’t enjoy the soup which was good because I was so dreading the tuna mayonnaise fish staring me down across the table. If you don’t know my sister kris, she can eat mayonnaise straight from the jar and tuna was her main staple in college. With the mashed potatoes thrown in I think she would have loved it. I had to stomach through two servings. I didn’t want her to think I didn’t like her family specialty. In case your wondering it was as bad as it sounds. Of course unless your Krisse, she would love it.
The only saving grace was the tiramisu that followed. It was the best I have ever eaten. Of course i haven’t eaten much due to the coffee but this exceptional. It was super easy. The pudding she made was great and had only a few steps. It took less time to put together than for the mussels to steam.
Hoping tomorrow’s dinner is less traditional.
Ciao
